tumultum populi (2016). 20 channels, headphones, found objects. ArtPrize 8, Grand Rapids, MI fall 2016. Recipient of a 2016 Seed Grant for emerging artists.

tumultum populi (noise of the people) is a large scale sound triptych, juxtaposing 3 socio-spatial dimensions of sound to examine the production and consumption of art on a large scale through the lens of ArtPrize/Grand Rapids. 10 channels of sound mounted on balconies plays recordings of the room during the installation process for each work in the gallery, crescendoing in waves of added layers of recordings of viewers as they encounter works throughout the festival. 8 channels of ambient outdoor recordings- the rapids, the ever present construction, and the peaceful parks that mark the city- animate materials found at the recordings sites. And 2 channels on headphones play intimate, uncomfortably close-miked recordings of the artists at work- sanding, tapping, rubbing, shading drawings, sighing.
